All our competition teams practice a couple hours a week except for our mini and junior hip hop comp teams which practice for an hour and a half. During these practices the students work on conditioning, technique, tricks and learning choreography. The competitions teams will compete at 3 different competitions through out the season as well as perform in the annual recital. We offer Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Contemporary Competition Teams for all ages. In order for your child to be able to participate in a competition class, he/she must be enrolled in one regular class.
Students and parents must be dedicated and follow strict rules to be apart of SU's competition team. We take our competition teams very seriously due to the amount of time and energy put in by both the students and the teachers. Classes are mandatory. If a student has more than 3 unexcused absences, the student can be dismissed from the team. Dismissal can also be a result of not following the rules and guidelines from the contract that will be signed by the dancer and parent at the beginning of every dance season. Try-outs are held for Advanced and Senior competition teams only.
There are many highlights to a child being on a competition team. It teaches a child about dedication, to be aware of their surroundings, problem solving, and how to work together to accomplish a common goal. This benefits them later on in life when they need to be in social environments and work with others in their career.
Step Up competition teams have won numerous platinum titles, first place trophies, and golden tickets to compete at Worlds. All our students form strong bonds and learn the value behind commitment, dedication, and perseverance.
